About Me

I’m Athénaïs Host, a French filmmaker and storyteller currently based in Strasbourg, France. I moved to the UK in 2019, where I studied Film and Television at Boomsatsuma College, before returning to France to continue my academic journey.

I am currently studying Cinema at university in Strasbourg, where I am deepening both my theoretical and practical understanding of film. My work is driven by a belief in cinema as a space for authenticity, exploration, and social meaning and a powerful medium to question the world, challenge perspectives, and tell stories that matter.

Alongside filmmaking, I have a strong interest in religion, philosophy, and ethics, themes that often inform my creative work. I am fluent in French and English, and currently learning Spanish (B2 level), which allows me to engage with international cinema and diverse audiences.

Experience

In May 2025, I attended the Cannes Film Festival as an accredited young critic with the Ecumenical Jury. Over ten days, I immersed myself in international cinema and critical writing:

  • Watched 32 films across official and press screenings
  • Wrote 9 published reviews for the Ecumenical Jury
  • Attended premieres and industry events
  • Gained first-hand insight into the realities of major film festivals

This experience deepened my understanding of cinema as both an art form and an industry, and reinforced my long-term ambition to one day present my own work at Cannes.

My Work

This website showcases a curated selection of my projects, including short documentaries, narrative films, experimental works, and personal projects. Each film represents a step in my creative journey and reflects my ongoing exploration of identity, belief, relationships, and humanity.

I am particularly drawn to portrait-driven storytelling, documentary filmmaking, and hands-on creative processes that prioritise sincerity and emotional truth.

What’s Next?

I aim to continue combining my interests in film and religious studies at university, while expanding my portfolio and collaborating with other creatives. My goal is to create films that resonate across cultures, spark meaningful conversations, and leave a lasting emotional and ethical impact.
Thank you for visiting my site. Feel free to explore my work, read about my festival experiences, or get in touch if you’d like to collaborate.
